BBDFL – Silent Weekend 5th and 6th November 2022

Bolton and Bury District Football League have chosen to play their part in a weekend of football that’ll leave you speechless. They are joining a National Silent Support Weekend where leagues and clubs across the country are asking all spectators and coaches to show their support through applause only when the match is in play. This gives players a better opportunity to find their own voice and develop their game.

Not sure? Let’s have a go, then tell us what you thought about it. And ask your parents and coaches to tell us too.

What to do at the Silent Weekend?

• Allow players to make mistakes

• Allow players to make their own decisions

• Applaud good play and effort from either team

What are the benefits of the Silent Weekend?

• Players can concentrate on the game and not be distracted by the touchline

• Players develop independent learning and decision-making

• Coaches can assess the teams’ communication skills

Join us on the 5th & 6th November 2022 and find out what happens when we turn the volume down for the players on the pitch.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Jody and Marc, both coaches at the club, on their marriage last weekend

50th Anniversary

This year the club’s presentation day will be at Sedgley Park RUFC, 22nd May and we’ll be celebrating the club’s 50th Anniversary. Any old players and managers please get in touch.

The Phoenix Centre Christmas Party

Ben Speakman

It was with deep sorrow that we learned of the untimely death of Ben Speakman this week. Ben, who was a manager with us for several seasons, sadly lost his life in a tragic  motorcycle accident, just outside Argyle in Scotland, early Monday morming. Ben was part of a group of 20 bikers on a weeks holiday, when the accident occurred.

Ben was only 46 and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Sarah, his sons Isaac and Kian, also his parents Maria and John.
