Prestwich Marauders Saracens 4 – 1 Horwich .
A very different, and much more organised than in our previous game, Horwich side rolled into town and caused us more than a few problems. Taking a fairly early 1-0 lead it became clear that this game was not going to… be the walkover some of the team thought it might be – you were warned by the coaches guys!! Stung by going behind the team clicked back into gear and were soon level with a goal from Oliver, then went in front with a nicely worked team goal finished again by Oliver soon after. Chances came and went and more goals should have followed for Matt, Oliver and Callum – a combination of close calls and some great goalkeeping. However Oliver secured his hat trick before half time and normal service was seemingly resumed. Shortly after half time and Dominic chipped in with one of his ‘specials’ to make it 4-1 and cue time for some experiments with the formation; Liam making a striking comeback and reminding us all of his ‘golden boot’ days of previous seasons. Kyle taking over in goal and performing admirably as Horwich sensed a way back into the game. Xav went back to the future with a slot on the right wing and Eb had a stint in defence for the second week in a row. The coaches haven’t gone mad – just having a little tinker with the formation with an eye on next season and 9 a side football looming. No further goals followed, despite Liams best efforts. Man of the match, for his barnstorming display, went to Callum – proof if it were needed that a change of position can be a massive success! Another 3 points on the board and, with only four league games to go, we remain top of the table. Tiki Taka lost to Bromley Cross which made it a good day for us but Worsley seem to be coming with a late surge so I’ve a feeling we’re going to need maximum points if we’re to get what we really deserve this season!
Prestwich Marauders Saracens 3-1 Astley & Tyldesley Tigers
A game to savour for coaches and parents alike. The day when everyones’ hard work over the past 3 years came to fruition. The team really were THAT good 🙂 The scoreline really could have been anything as our approach play, passing and pressing was a joy to watch. Goals came from Oliver (another 2 to add to his incredible tally) and Joe, with a great opener to break the deadlock. But it was so much more than the goals. This is the performance we should be aspiring to every week guys! Man of the match, by a fraction as everyone of you had a storming game, was Dominic – where does that boy get his energy from?! And lets not forget this opposition are playing in a section above us and had won their last league game 5-0 away from home. In fact they beat us 7-0 last season on the way to promotion. Play like this over the next 4 games and surely we’ll be rewarded with a nice trophy and some medals! speaking of which, the league carried on without us this week (how rude of them!) and the table still looks very nice!
