News and results for Saturday 20th January.

Kestrels drew with Hindsford Diamonds.

Very proud of our performance today. Hindsford are a strong, physical team with perhaps the best ‘keeper we’ve come across. Overall, a really enjoyable match to watch – tense, exciting and nerve wracking! The discipline on display from us was first class and there was great maturity and intensity throughout the team. I think it might be the first game I’ve been involved with that has been 0-0 at half time! Joe popped up with our goal in the second half and played with real fire and intensity at times which was great to see. Opposition gave Nathan man of the match for his impressive defensive work but our Man of the Match today was Haris. Keeps things ticking all the time in the middle, sets up chances, tracks back, encourages and communicates. Overall a great team performance though.

Both the girls teams played in their respected league age groups cups. Both Marauders teams were given the cruelest of draws with both opposition teams being  the top teams of their respected age, both of whom are unbeaten this season.

Wildcats already to their disadvantage had lost a couple of players before Ko. Playing in a swamp, with 7 players, I feared the worst, but the opposition played the same numbers and gave us a glimmer of hope. But unfortunately guts and heart can only get you so far, with the combination of very well drilled pass and moves and an extra 7 subs at their disposal we found ourselves 4 down at half time. The arrival of an 8th player at half time for us saw hopes rise and we found a little extra energy and for a while we held them in their half, but aforementioned, the extra legs for the opposition as well as their current unbeaten run providing confidence in the team,  they just closed ranks and put the game out of reach.
Every Wildcat tonight should hold their heads high for giving it all to the end. MoTM was given to Renee for sheer tenacity and 110% commitment in everything she did.

Sapphires played a team today who go out every week and smash every team they play.
Needless to say there was no plucky underdog story here. But every girl who wore a Marauders shirt today showed why we have come so far in this little amount of time. An unbreakable team bond that will see them dust themselves down and try again next week.
Every Sapphire gave everything right to the last whistle, but special mention to MoTM Nyeletti in goal who despite the score line produced some truly amazing saves in goal.
