Congratulations to Hurricanes under-eights girls who won the Bolton, Bury and District Football League Festival Cup this weekend.

The girls came back from 1-3 down against Astley Bridge, to equalise and take it to penalties, before successful kicks from Marnie and Violet and a great save from Siana saw Marauders victorious.

The pick of Hurricanes' goals was the first, which came after a beautifully worked passing move, with Marnie passing to Violet, who found Lyla, who finished with aplomb.

Violet's brace brought the scores level as the girls continued their recent habit of coming back from behind.

It is a tremendous achievement for Hurricanes in their first season, with some of the girls only starting to play the game a year ago.

Well done to all the squad - Betsy, Lyla, Marnie, Siana, Olivia, Emily, Alma, Violet, Matilda and Rene.

And to the coaches Pete and Justin. Full, detailed report to follow...

Meanwhile, there was another superb performance on the St Mary's Park nines pitch from Phoenix under-10s girls on Sunday.

Newbie April was player of the game for her brace, with Lois and Miya also scoring.

In truth the girls could have doubled their goal tally, but there was some excellent goal-keeping from the visitors Ladybridge, who were experiencing nines football for the first time.

The constant messaging around passing and being available for the ball has really paid off.

One move, which sadly didn't get the finish it deserved, saw every player on the team touch the ball.

Lola was exceptional once again in her midfield lynchpin role.

Noe never stopped and was everywhere.

April belied her years with a rampaging performance.

Lois harried opponents and spread the play repeatedly.

Iris was rampant down the right, showing her crossing training with dad is reaping rewards.

Mia was faultless in defence and hit the bar with a pile driver while up front.

Ever-dangerous Miya scored her sixth goal in six appearances and could have had more.

Anabell played perfect passes down the line, including one that led to a goal.

Grace was commanding in defence and distributed the ball well.

Isabella kept her concentration despite a quiet day, and made a couple of fine saves.

The girls deserved the compliments and all had big smiles as they came off the pitch.

The coaches will now work to keep their feet on the ground as tougher tests await...
