Phoenix girls under-11s flew into the BBDFL Festival Cup semi-finals, with an impressive 9-4 win over Mossbank.

Coach Brendan said: “The girls made a fast start with two early strikes from the typically-impressive Adalind up top.

“Mia showed her attacking attributes with her strong running by going close to adding a third. Blake worked hard on the right winning some strong duels against physical opponents.

“Lola and Annabel picking up loose balls to keep the pressure on and the ball, but Mossbank came back into it and battled back to draw level at half-time.

“The girls really listened to their half-time instructions, when we told them to put pressure on the opponents from their goal kicks.

“A third goal for Phoenix came from quick thinking by Iris, who intercepted one such kick to cross for an own goal off a defender.

“Phoenix’s tails were up and Adalind added three more goals with some calm finishing after good build up play.

“Lois battled a couple of knocks to put in a super second half, working really hard to track runners and helping the defenders, while also scoring a lovely long distance effort.

“Non-stop Noe began running with real threat from midfield. April was a constant menace on the left, combining really well with Noe who played a lovely through ball for April to produce a superb finish high into the net.

“Iris added the final goal with a brilliant strike from a tight angle. Those two goals brought particular delight, as the two girls have worked incredibly on their ball striking this season.

"The superb attacking performance in the second half was built on some resolute defending and goalkeeping.

“Isabella in goal made some excellent saves, but it was her quick and accurate distribution that started many of Phoenix’s attacks. Again, that is down to her dedication and hard work on the training ground.

"The defensive effort was epitomised by Grace and Brooke who each put in season-best performances today. They tackled, covered and defended superbly.

“Grace got her head up and calmly looked to play the ball out of defence, and was in part a result of the effort and focus she put into training earlier in the week.

“Brooke received the player of the game gong for her all-round display. As well as the tackling, and battling, she is really starting to think about her passing and positioning.

“It was a real standout performance from a player who only started playing organised football at the start of this season."

Warriors boys under-13s beat Marple away 4-3 in their last game of the season.

Coach Stewart said: “It was a great game to end the season on. We scored four fantastic goals with great football played to create all of them.

“There was a great penalty from Archie and two top notch finishes from George. His first had no back lift, top bins, from the edge of the box and his second was even better, as he showed great skill to beat the defender and perfect composure to sit the keeper down and side foot the ball into the corner. 4

“The fourth was a great lay off from William and a great finish from Finlay.

“There was some really good play at times and you wouldn't think we have had a three-week break.

“We finished the season unbeaten, which is a great achievement in our first season at 11-aside. Well done boys.”

Fellow under-13s boys Raptors beat Elton and Walshaw 8-2.

Coach Paul said: “It was a strong start from Raptors, dominating the middle and creating a few surges forward early on.

“The slightly longer grass caught the lads out with the roll though, so it took around 15 minutes to find the first goal from Luca. He took on a long range effort from 30 yds and lobbed the keeper.

“Cameron, playing centre back, moved forward to take a free kick out wide and his shot/cross sailed over the keeper to make it two just before the break.

“We started the second half well and quickly added a third through Tommy. At this point Raptors ramped up the pressure and added another again through Tommy.

“Elton hit back after a solo run which George got his finger tips to but still found its way in. Bobby, pulling the strings in midfield, added another before Elton found a second.

"But Raptors weren't done. Lucas found the bottom corner from the edge of the box, Thomas got his first of the season, playing further forward, and Max hit a wonder goal top bins from 25 yds.

“It was a great team performance, with Bobby picking up the player of the match award.”

Again at under-13s, Cheetahs girls put in a spirited performance in their 3-1 loss against  Pennington Lionesses.

Coach Alex said: “It was really not a 1-3 game at all. We played some lovely football and had some chances.

“The goal we got was really well worked across the pitch, starting at the back, a lovely touch in midfield out to Sian who got the assist, slotting through to Aoife for a fantastic finish.

“What a performance in net from AJ with an amazing double save from a penalty kick - she also took excellent goal kicks.

“In the second half she was solid at the back, getting our player of the game award.

“Summer took home opposition player of the game for her tenacity and pace playing in a defensive role and keeping their quick attackers at bay throughout the game.

“It is always tough when we don’t have any subs and especially in the heat against a team that had a squad and a half.

“Once again I have to congratulate the girls on their effort and mentality. It is a real show of their characters that they remain positive and never give up every week.”
